The Alyth Allotments have a new main gate, thanks to a grant from Alyth Development Trust?s Community Projects Fund. The grant was awarded back at the end of last year to fund not only a new access gate but also a waste skip for unwanted debris (broken glass/timber/metal/etc) as well as a slabbed seating area with picnic benches. The Allotments also planned to buy a petrol mower and strimmer for shared use.
Peter Comrie of the Allotments committee said: ?The work we had proposed to do this year like many things came to a halt due to the coronavirus and then as the growing season started no one had much time. However, we have finally managed to have the gate replaced which was badly needing done. It?s likely the other items we were expecting to do might not get completed until next Spring.
?On the plus side, as well as the new gate we now have a proper committee, and we have had a few meetings but again due to the virus this has prevented further meetings. Having the committee has created further interest plus more local people have taken an interest and we now have no free allotments. I think local people are interested in the produce being grown, and we have noticed more visitors to the allotment in particular people wanting a chat and a look around.?

ADT?s Community Projects Fund is open again for applications for grant money until the end of October;?find out more and apply for your grant here. The Fund distributes community benefits payments we receive from Temporis Ltd, operators of the Tullymurdoch Windfarm north of Alyth.
How do I apply for a patch please.
Thank you.
Hi Meg, I’m afraid I don’t know off the top of my head. I’ll forward your query to the contact we have for the Allotments and see what he says. Cheers, Kevin Coe
Hi Meg and thanks for your question. We have a minimal number of allotment spaces and at present all the allotments are taken. As there are limited spaces it is as a space becomes available it will be offered to the person first on the waiting list who have requested a space. There are some basic rules in place for maintaining the allotment. I can put forward your name to add to the list for when a space becomes vacant. Please feel free to visit the allotments which are on Victoria Street.
