New training strips for Alyth Juniors 2012s squad

The Alyth Juniors 2012 football team will be training even more effectively this season, thanks to a grant from Alyth Development Trust’s community projects fund.

The independent panel that judges applications to the fund has awarded a grant of £1500 to the club to buy enough kits to equip each boy with his own training tops and bottoms.  The club has bought 20 full sets, enough to equip the whole squad.

The club had already secured a sponsor for their playing kits, and having the training kits will keep the playing strips pristine for games over the winter season. The kits will also keep the boys warm during training sessions at the club’s home on Jubilee Park in Alyth.

Team secretary Jenni Milne said:  “We’re committed to encouraging boys to be involved with youth football in Alyth. Having enough training kits means they can keep warm during training sessions even in cold weather, which is an important part of physical exercise.”

ADT’s Community Projects Fund distributes the community benefit funds provided for Alyth by the operators of the Tullymurdoch Windfarm, some five miles north of the town.  Applications to the fund are judged by an independent panel of volunteers drawn from across the community.  Apply at https://lovealyth.org.uk/projects/alyth-community-projects-fund/.

Alyth Amateurs celebrating first home match in two years

Alyth Amateur Football Club will kick off their first home match in two years when repairs to their fire-damaged pavilion are completed in the New Year.

The building was damaged in a fire in August 2023, forcing the club to play their homes games in Blairgowrie.

Now thanks to a partnership between the club, Alyth Development Trust and Perth and Kinross Council, the team will finally be able to enjoy some home support in the new year.

The pavilion will be a valuable public space which will be available for the community and local groups to use.

Local contractors SHH Construction are repairing the fire-damaged pavilion, which was being refurbished when the fire broke out.

This work is expected to finish early in 2026 when AAFC will fit out the changing rooms with benches, clothing hooks before resuming home fixtures at home, rather than Blairgowrie.

Alyth Development Trust will enter in to a lease agreement with PKC with the aim of the Pavilion becoming a community asset run through a management group including representatives of AAFC, ADT, Alyth Community Council and others.

Councillor Tom McEwan, convener of Perth & Kinross Council’s Housing and Wellbeing Committee, said: “Football clubs like AAFC are an important part of their communities so it will be great to see the pavilion brought back into use and the team playing at home again.

“The pavilion will be more than just a changing room for football teams though – it will be a great facility available for the entire Alyth community.”

Alyth play in the first division team of Perthshire Amateur Football Association.

Dave Barclay from AAFC said: “It has been a long time since Alyth Amateurs were able to pull on their jerseys at the Big Park. Thanks to a great deal of concerted effort, 2026 is now shaping up to mark the return of our home fixtures in Alyth.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the staff at Perth and Kinross Council, ADT, and SHH Construction, as well as the club members, for their commitment and determination in helping to bring this project to completion.”

David Whipps of Alyth Development Trust said: “We are really pleased to have been in a position to help get the Pavilion back into use. This is a great example of how ADT can help to address and tackle local issues and needs.”

Grant to help Alyth’s footballers stay in the game

Alyth’s football club is getting a helping hand from ADT’s Community Projects Fund.

The independent panel that adjudicates applications to the fund has awarded £2000 to Alyth Amateur Football Club (AAFC) to help cover the substantial extra costs they’re facing as a result of the devastating fire that gutted the pavilion on the Jubilee Park.  As well as destroying a lot of equipment, the fire left AAFC with nowhere to train and play home games.

Perth & Kinross Council, who own the pavilion, have been so far unable to agree the claim with the insurance company, so AAFC have had to hire pitches and training facilities in Blairgowrie.  This has severely depleted the Club’s funds, and although they are doing as much fund-raising as they can there was a very real question mark over AAFC’s long-term future.

AAFC’s Jenni Milne explained:  “The grant from ADT’s Community Projects Fund means that we can keep going on the present basis until at least the end of this season.  This is of great benefit to our players, supporters and the local community of which we are a part.

“The grant will support our own fund-raising efforts until as a club we can return home to the Diamond Jubilee Park in Alyth.  We’re determined to continue being part of Alyth’s community – which has always been so loyal to the Club in the past,” she added.
