Grant helps Scouts with DIY hut improvements

Alyth’s Scouts have been learning some home improvement skills, thanks to a grant from our Community Projects Fund.

They used a grant of just over £1000 to refurbish their equipment store at the Scout Hut on Chapel Street, with new shelving and a heavy-duty ladder.  The grant also enabled the Scout Group to buy a modern Bluetooth-enabled sound system for games and activities.

The Leaders and Explorer Scouts fitted the new shelving themselves with expert guidance and under strict safety conditions.  This greatly reduced the cost of the project to save costs, meaning the grant only had to cover the cost of materials.

Scout Leader Ron Kirkpatrick said:  “The new shelves make storage in the Hut so much more efficient, particularly for storing the hundreds of books we get each year for the annual Book Fest.  The ladder means we can use the improved storage more safely.  The sound system will be a boost for using other technical equipment, and overall the project has made a big improvement in the facilities we have in the Hut for activities and events.”
